What Next? Future Tense helps children talk about what is going to happen. Each card shows a moment just before something happens, such as a boy at the top of a slide or a firework about to go off. Children look for clues in the picture, predict what will happen next, and say it using the future tense: "The boy is going to go down the slide."

Two skills in one deck
Future tense. Children hear and use "is going to…" to talk about events that haven't happened yet.
Inference and prediction. Before answering, children have to notice the clues. The boy is sitting at the top of the slide, so he is going to slide down. Working out why something will happen builds the reasoning children need for stories, conversation and school.
How the audio works
- Go to chatterbugs.app and enter the code from your box.
- Choose a language.
- Enter the card number to hear its sentence.
In the app you can slow the audio down, replay the sentence, and record your own voice as the model. Audio plays online, so you'll need an internet connection.
How to use the cards
- Cover the sentence. Show only the picture and ask, "What's going to happen next?"
- Look for clues. If your child is unsure, point to the clues: "Where is the boy? What do you think he'll do?"
- Say it in the future tense. If your child says "slide", model the full sentence back: "He's going to go down the slide."
- Check the card. Uncover the sentence or play the audio to compare.
- Ask why. "How did you know?" Explaining the clue strengthens reasoning.
