30 "Who?" questions about people and their jobs, with audio

Who? People and Their Jobs helps children understand that "who" asks about a person, and learn the names of the people they see around them. Each card shows a scene and asks a question, such as "Who is collecting the letters?" Children look for the clues and work out the job. The answer, "A postman", is on the back.

  • Audio in 6 languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Punjabi
  • Ages 3+

Why "Who?" questions matter

Children hear "who" questions all the time: "Who's at the door?", "Who drives the bus?". To answer, they need to understand that "who" means a person, then link that person to what they do. Learning jobs also gives children words for the world beyond home, which helps with stories, role play and school topics.

How the audio works

  1. Go to chatterbugs.app and enter the code from your box.
  2. Choose a language.
  3. Scan the QR code on the front of a card to hear the question and the answer.

In the app you can slow the audio down, replay the question or the answer, and record your own voice as the model. Audio plays online, so you'll need an internet connection.

How to use the cards

  1. Ask the question. Read the front and look at the picture together.
  2. Find the clues. "What is he holding? Where is he?"
  3. Guess the job. Let your child answer, then turn the card over to check.
  4. Say what they do. Build up to a sentence: "The postman collects the letters."
  5. Play pretend. Act out a job and let your child guess who you are.

Brainy Bug Resources is built by speech and language therapists with extensive clinical experience in mainstream schools, special schools and community clinics. Because language lies at the heart of all learning, our range goes beyond first words, covering vocabulary, grammar, reasoning, emotions, storytelling, phonics and more. Every resource follows the order in which children's language develops.

  • Built in developmental order. Each deck has a clear place in a child's language journey, so you always know the next step.
  • Audio in up to 9 languages. Hear every word and sentence through the Chatterbugs app, slow it down, or record your own voice as the model.
  • Designed to get children talking. Picture-only sides, a monkey character and contrast sets give children a reason to find the words themselves rather than copy them.
  • Space for your home language. Writing lines on the back let parents add words in the language they speak at home.
  • Made for home, classroom and therapy. The same cards work for a parent at the dinner table and a therapist in a session.
