Where? Position Words Level 1 helps children understand and use the words that describe where things are, such as in, on, under, in front of and in between. Each of the 15 position words appears on two cards, in two different scenes, so children practise it more than once and in more than one situation. Each card asks "Where is the boy?" Children work out the answer, then turn the card over to see it as a full sentence: "The little boy is under the table."

Why each word appears twice
A child who sees "under" only once may link it to that one picture: a boy under a table. Seeing the same word in a second, different scene shows that "under" describes a position, whatever the object. That repetition is what turns a word children recognise into one they can use.
Why position words matter
Children need position words to follow everyday instructions ("Put your shoes under the bed"), to find things, and to describe what they see. Answering in a full sentence ("The girl is in front of the tree"), rather than just "tree", also builds longer, more grammatical speech.
How the audio works
- Go to chatterbugs.app and enter the code from your box.

- Scan the QR code on the front of a card to hear the question and the answer.
In the app you can slow the audio down, replay the question or the answer, and record your own voice as the model. Audio plays online, so you'll need an internet connection.
How to use the cards
- Ask the question. "Where is the boy?"
- Let them answer. Accept pointing or one word at first ("table").
- Turn it over. Read the full sentence together: "The little boy is under the table."
- Find the pair. Look for the other card with the same position word and compare the two scenes.
- Act it out. Use a toy to show under, on and in front of, then give instructions: "Put the teddy under the chair."
