A functional language kit with four games for requesting, rejecting and asking, with audio-enabled cards
Super Talker teaches children the everyday language they need to get what they want and say what they don't: "I want…", "I don't want…", "Give me…", "Do you have…?", "I like mango." Four simple games built around food, colours and actions give children lots of reasons to use these phrases, and the vocabulary flashcards are audio-enabled.

What is functional language?
Functional language is the language children use to make things happen: asking for something, refusing something, making a choice, or saying how they feel about it. A child who can name a banana but can't say "I want the banana" or "I don't want it" may still rely on pointing, crying or grabbing. Practising these phrases in a game makes them easier to use at mealtimes, in play and with other children.
The four games
- Fruit Salad: fill your bowl board by asking for the fruit you need and turning down what you don't. "Do you have a pear?" "Give me the banana." "I don't want the grapes."
- Colour Catch: match and ask for colours.
- Melon Madness: use the action-word cards to say what's happening: "Eating!", "Stealing!"
- Love It: say what you like and don't like: "I like apples." "I don't like spinach."
How the audio works
- Go to chatterbugs.app and enter the code from your box.
- Choose a language.
- Scan the QR code on a vocabulary flashcard to hear the word.
The 36 vocabulary flashcards are audio-enabled. In the app you can slow the audio down, replay it, and record your own voice as the model. Audio plays online, so you'll need an internet connection.
How to use the kit
- Start with the flashcards. Name the foods and colours together and play the audio.
- Pick one game and one or two phrases to focus on, such as "I want…".
- Model first. Take your turn and say the phrase clearly.
- Wait. Give your child time to ask before you hand anything over.
- Use it for real. Practise the same phrases at snack time: "Do you want apple or banana?"

- Who We Are
- What Makes Us Unique
Brainy Bug Resources is built by speech and language therapists with extensive clinical experience in mainstream schools, special schools and community clinics. Because language lies at the heart of all learning, our range goes beyond first words, covering vocabulary, grammar, reasoning, emotions, storytelling, phonics and more. Every resource follows the order in which children's language develops.
- Built in developmental order. Each deck has a clear place in a child's language journey, so you always know the next step.
- Audio in up to 9 languages. Hear every word and sentence through the Chatterbugs app, slow it down, or record your own voice as the model.
- Designed to get children talking. Picture-only sides, a monkey character and contrast sets give children a reason to find the words themselves rather than copy them.
- Space for your home language. Writing lines on the back let parents add words in the language they speak at home.
- Made for home, classroom and therapy. The same cards work for a parent at the dinner table and a therapist in a session.
